Before becoming self-taught in architecture, he led a varied life, working as a truck driver and boxer. His approach recalls the principles of minimalist aesthetics, strongly influenced by the Modern Movement but at the same time linked to traditional Japanese architecture, Tadao Ando has always imposed a strong limitation on design time, so as to give his works an almost "original" character in the definition of details.
The artist is known for an exemplary style that evokes in a typically Japanese way the materiality, connection and reading of spaces, through aesthetic comparison with international modernism. A choice that translates into the almost exclusive use of exposed concrete often associated with wood and stone.
In 1969 the artist opened Tadao Ando Architects & Associates. Begins collaboration with Venini 2011.
