Pineapple

The Pineapple, a fruit now customary and easy to find on our tables, especially those of the holidays, è a symbol of welcome, hospitality and celebration.

It acquires its significance during the period of its discovery: it is precisely the captains of the ships who build around this fruit, unavailable in Europe before the discovery of the Americas, a real message. Indeed, once they returned from their first long voyages overseas, sailors used to spear a Pineapple outside their homes.

This ornament had a twofold purpose: both to bear witness to the voyage made and as a message to one's friends and acquaintances informing them of one's return and inviting them in to meet and celebrate.

Thus pineapples, both real and their reproductions, began to appear outside homes, in houses, on holiday tables, as a universal symbol of welcome and celebration.
